And older comments Reading this guide I have some doubts about the audience. It is not only a user guide, but tries to capture some d4S special features that are not so relevant to users. I will distribute a version that, according to me, starts addressing this issue, essentially by making the texts shorter.
And older remarks for discussion (enhancement tickets) some other comments:
- Target species in fisheries are a specific term which I would not use here (They are the main species that a fisherman is after)
- "AquaMaps object generation functionality" is listed under facilities. So what is the difference between a facility and functionality? And what are AquaMaps objects? I believe this is not relevant to users, so I would write: "AquaMaps generation"
- REM "Through these tabs the users is provided with customised graphical interface supporting"
- There are some text wrapping issues
- Can some of the help be made availble through the UI (Tooltip)
- There is no mechanism to send e.g. errors or suggestions to a VRE Content Manger (E.g. I know the english name for Abralopsis felix, and I need that in my report, how can I get it in the list? Can I send a request somewhere)
- The text mentions "The user", and I would remove all of them. Not because there are no users, but because the user who is reading the manual already is the user.
- The phylogeny is not always correct, that must be reflected both in the UI as well as in the guide
- The result of a filter should be called Filter research (There is a ticket for that)
- "Active Filter Summary": Is that a summary??? why not "Active Filter Settings"
- "At the bottom of the Filter Panel there are the following three action buttons:" I would add a small heading, and increase the size of the button panel (and icons?) in the UI.
- I see a slide bar in the image of the filter panel in the UI, did someone forget it there?
- The "Refresh Button" is iconized, why? Inconsistent with the other buttons that have titles. Put the dynamic icon somewhere else?
- Inconsistent use of : and . in lists
- Reduce use (of brackets)(that are not always needed)

- User selected species = Selected species
- Associated species contains SPECIESID, Species Code, Genus as default. PLease change, e.g. sciname, en-name
- Add the name of the product to the Assiocaited species title
- Invert selected. For me it is difficult to see when it is useful. If it is not (ask FIN) please remove. This button has two functionlitites that are better split. Select all is not the same as invert selected.
- FB Common name = Fishbase Name
- SPECIESID = Fishbase ID (??)
- Species Code = Fishbase Code (And why are there a code and an ID in AquaMaps, check if you need both)
- I would rather use panel than area, as area also has a geospatial context in the VRE, which might be confusing
- Default species environmental tolerance = title, whereas contents contain preferences. Check with FIN.
- The precision of the data are unrealistic, check with FIN
- The FAO Bounding box would be much easier to use if it were a multiple select dropdown with e.g. Code-Name displayed (21-NEAtlantic)
- On one panel, text boxes and dropdown have different sizes, does not look neat.
- Text in dropdowns should not be truncated, make the dropdowns wider, or the texts shorter
- "For Sea Temp. and Salinity use" is not a label for a dropdown. Why not make it "Temperature and salinity"??
- Capitsalization in the panel titles is inconsistent
- Primary production has no unit in the "Default species environmental tolerance"
- Commit envelope; is this real committing (into a database) or saving or ???
- The occurence cells popup title is not formatted well (space missing) and does not display species scientific and EN/FB names. Why was the ID choosen?
- a "selected areas area" is confusing
- The "Submitted AquaMaps Objects" panel should contain the job-name, if a filter is applied
- I miss the send-to-workspace and what to do next with the object paragraph
